Climatic Effects on Gender

Well its good that some people somewhere have decided to take one stride further and address the issue of Climate change in their different capacities.I applaud such a noble initiative but as i was reading most of the contributions it seems as if we are losing the real thrust of this program somehow as i see it.
I personally would feel a whole lot better if we stop the 'blaming business' and try to make a change in our own capacities. For example ladies and gentleman ;as conversant as we are with the Climate change effects how many of us have taken time to go to our rural areas or farms and have taken time to plant Gum tree woodlots or have sought the audience of the Chief and volunteered to start communal woodlots specifically for firewood so that other indigenous trees are not cut.
Comrades and Countrymen did you know that women per se are more affected than men when it comes to the changes in weather patterns, when there is prolonged drought ,when there is a disease outbreak and when the rain contains a lot of acid. They are the ones who have to travel longer looking for water when nearby wells have run dry, they have to travel longer distances with the sick looking for a clinic. In short,Research has proven that environmental degradation increases the Women time burden.
I leave you with this quotation from Kumar and Hotchkiss(1988)
who researched and documented the following findings:
''In the hill villages of Nepal ,where women perform 82% of the firewood collection, extensive deforestation increases their time on this task by 75% per load of firewood. For women in deforestated areas ,this translates to an additional 1.13hrs per day collecting firewood.''
