“Zimbabwe and the Kyoto Protocol –
What’s in it for You?”

The Seminar will include:
The current status of international Climate Change negotiations.
The basic principles of the Kyoto Protocol in relation to the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Certified Emission Reductions (CER’s), particularly in regard to financial assistance for projects in developing countries to help achieve sustainable development.
The significant new opportunities for business in Zimbabwe to participate in CDM projects now that Zimbabwe is officially a Party to the Kyoto Protocol.
Examples of the wide variety of such projects.
The potential financial, ecological and social benefits that can be derived.
How businesses can proceed with CDM projects.
Speakers will be:
Mr Washington Zhakata, National Coordinator, Climate Change Office, Ministry of Environment & Natural Resources Management. (Mr Zhakata attended the recent international Climate Change meetings in Bonn, which were a precursor to the major Climate Change – COP15 – meetings in Copenhagen later this year).
Mr Musa Mahlangu, Managing Director, Sprout Africa Projects. (This is a South African company active in a number of fields within SADCC. It has a specialised division dealing with the emergent global low carbon market and which assists organisations to take up opportunities in the low carbon economy in line with the Kyoto Protocol targeting greenhouse gas emissions. It has been “approved” by the Ministry).
The Seminar will be chaired by the BCSDZ Climate Change Technical Committee Chairman, Mr Tichafa Jena
